Aging in America: Why seniors are not getting swine flu | Latest News | WFAA.com
Until the 1990s few people bothered to get flu shots. So they got the flu, and the prevalent attitude was, so what? There once was a time when getting the flu was not considered a major event unless you were especially vulnerable. And now the older you are, the more antibodies you have. Ironic.

Older people may enjoy a good degree of herd immunity to this virus in its current form which suggests it has attributes of previously circulating viral strains for which the older individuals have developed antibodies.

However there have been cases of people in their 30s to 50s who have have contracted the virus and developed so much pulmonary distress they have had to be placed on ventilators.
