I realize these poll numbers can change. But in a way that's the point. He has brought down his own approval numbers by over-reaching, especially on health care. I believe that if he took on the issue of reducing health care costs first, and got a bill passed on that, he would shoot up in the polls. Then he could address the question of universal coverage. But he is stubbornly insisting that everything has to be done at once, and right now.

Of course he is. A president's first year is when he has the most political capital and to quote his predecessor, Obama is spending it.
It isn't just a matter of being too much in a hurry, but using this speed to obfuscate the real meaning of legislation from the American people. The so-called stimulus package is a case in point, but then so are the health care "reform" and the cap and tax scheme.
Americans will not in the long term accept this type of government. It is tyranny! Cramming legislation down our throats, particularly legislation that could endanger our health and the endanger the economy will be the cause of revolt.
This may fly in the Chicago mafia style governance model, but it isn't the way things are done in this country as a whole.
