It is vital that any and all improprieties be exposed and dealt with by the proper authorities. It is also important not to assume that improprieties are common at HOAs in Nevada. One of the reasons these cases attract as much attention as they do is because they are the exception, not the norm.

Regular readers of this blog are aware that Associa is the largest HOA management company, owned by Texas state senator John Carona (R-Dallas), who filed a SLAPP suit "intended to censor, intimidate, and silence critics by burdening them with the cost of a legal defense until they abandon their criticism or opposition."
Being a mouth piece for Associa and the Community Associations Institute (CAI) gives one the credibility of being a PR spokesperson for regimes in countries like China, Iran, or North Korea, especially when they write crap like
"Evidence of work done by the vast majority of HOAs was seen
in a recent national survey of residents in homeowners
associations and condominium communities that found
association residents held their elected board members and
professional managers in high regard."
Opinion polls and election results show that citizens of China, Iran, and North Korea also hold their leaders in high regard.
Contrast with independent polls not paid for by the HOA lobby, which show that
“Two-thirds of people who live in the jurisdiction of a
homeowners association are “annoyed” by them, or worse,
and 19% have been in what they call a 'war' with their HOA”

24% responded positively about HOAs.
...
54% of respondents said they’d rather live with a “sloppy
neighbor” than deal with an HOA.
...
78% of those responding to the poll said they might consider
NOT buying a home because it would be under the jurisdiction
of an HOA.
Perhaps the CAI can hire (or already has hired) Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf, aka Baghdad Bob, to be one of their PR hacks. There's probably still a bunch of Soviet-era Pravada writers also looking for work.
99% of HOAs give the rest a bad name.
