Snowcrash is a great novel. And maybe it will turn out to be prophetic.

I've made reference to it many time before here in the comments section, but The Onion's "The Future Will Be A Totalitarian Government Dystopia vs The Future Will Be A Privatized Corporate Dystopia" is worth reading.

It includes such memorable lines as:

"When every inch of space is privatized, it will cost money to walk from your living room to the kitchen. "

Some day, that will be a standard clause in our HOA "contracts", along with the the telescreens you "agreed" to.

Well then if everything's privatized, we won't need any political parties anymore including the GOP.

Privatization has its place (refuse collection, snow removal etc.) but not for everything and managing most housing is one of those cases. Because the duty and responsibility to govern “we the people” falls to the elected public sector under constitutional rule and not to private corporate business. Who’s primary duty is only to the bottom line instead of, … to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…(US constitution) Simply Privatization of housing represents the abandonment by elected public officials of their duty to govern in favor of more revenue.
When used in housing, Privatization imposes upon property owners:
•Privatized justice through ADR and contract corporate governance.
•Represents a monopoly
•Represents control over owners castles and consolidation of power with little or no oversight.
•Represents the abandonment of the US constitution form of governance and its rights and protections, by delegating them to others.
•Represents revenue generation as its primary scope by masquerading its use as being, to protect property values.
•Represents “… how ordinary people suffered when corporate power ran amok.” (The Snow Crashing of America)
•Represents why Colonial American abandoned contract governance in favor of something better.
•Represents the original form of CID management chosen by others without the participation of consumers who become its future and primary shareholders.
