Illegal short-term rentals flood N.O. market ahead of Super Bowl | wwltv.com New Orleans
"With Super Bowl 2013 just weeks away, acquaintances from out of town are asking the Uptown resident if he will be renting out his place."The houses in our neighborhood have been going for wild amounts of money, up to $20,000 for the weekend," said Blaine, who knows short-term rentals are illegal in the city."

The city of Austin is attempting to impose the same control over the property belonging to others. See Austin's New Short Term Rental Ordinance

Now you also must be willing to pay permit fees and submit to inspection by the city. .. and the city will be discriminating as to who can get a permit because it is imposing a percentage cap on the density of STR properties. The city is granting a monopoly over STR. Oh yeah and the city will be imposing hotel occupancy taxes - a total of 15%.
