FT.com / US / Politics & Foreign policy - Obama promises bipartisan action on deficits: "Although Lawrence Summers, head of the National Economic Council, fell asleep on the podium, most attendees, including Republicans, appear to have appreciated the exercise."
-------------------
I listened to Obama after the summit conference. He asked for statements by the heads of the various breakout sessions. It was the most vapid, content-free, touchy-feely, bunch of nonsense you can imagine. It sounded like one of those mission statement retreats that non-profit corporations are always doing. I don't blame Summers for falling asleep...or the Dow for plummeting another 250 points. What the heck is going on? I get the impression that this administration is flying by the seat of its pants and blaming Bush (as well they might) while Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid run roughshod over the economy, rewarding friends and punishing enemies. Time to take the controls, Mr. President. Wake up Larry Summers and the rest of your advisers and get this show on the road.
